Obtainium is a software for downloading open source APPs for mobile phones through RSS subscription. It can replace the F-Droid store and allow you to download your favorite Android application resources anytime and anywhere.

Software Highlights

"Obtainium" is a mobile application that tracks open source APP updates. The developer Imran Remtulla said that he was inspired to write this APP by the video of Side Of Burritos.

There are many open source apps that can only release APKs on Github due to various reasons. It is difficult to put them on F-Droid. Sometimes the version of F-Droid is different from the version released by the developer.

Therefore, the editor recommends installing the APK directly from the developer source. In the video, he demonstrates how to manually add the Github repository to the RSS subscription to download APP updates.

Software Instructions

1. Go to Obtainium’s Github to download the APK and install it.

2. Open Obtainium, click Add Application, and enter the URL of the APP. Taking Adaway as an example here, just fill in the main page of the Github project.

Obtainium's current sources are Github, Gitlab, F-Droid, and IzzyOnDroid. Obtainium can catch updates from these platforms and automatically download APKs. As for ApkPure and ApkMirror, they can only track updates and cannot automatically download APKs.

Please note when using F-Droid: Do not mix F-Droid and Github APKs at the same time. Usually the signatures of the two APKs will conflict. If it is the same APP, you may have to uninstall the original APK downloaded from F-Droid and then install the Github version of the APK.

3. After installation, Obtainium will check for APP updates regularly. If you want to change your phone, click the option in the settings to export the tracked APP list.
